April 13, 2012

We attended a KinderKonzert put on by the Portland Symphony Orchestra. It was about Abby Burgess - a young girl who lived in a lighthouse off the coast of Maine in the late 1800s. Her father had to go for supplies and left Abby to keep the lights burning in the lighthouse. A storm was raging and Abby had to work alone to keep the lights going.

While this was a fantastic concert, it was really designed for children about age 4-12. My poor oldest son "suffered" through it, but it was enjoyable. Not only did the children learn about Abby Burgess, but they were also introduced to four different stringed instruments - violin, viola, cello, and bass.

It also fit in with our Maine studies.
